There are some occasions where it is helpful for pupils to know the precise order of events as a necessary but not sufficient condition for being able to construct an explanation of a particular historical event or crisis.
Was religious persecution more severe in the first or second half of the period?
The first half of the period saw more mutilations and executions; in the 17th century, there was discrimination but fewer killings, and times when differences were tolerated if groups worshipped discreetly. By 1688, fewer people were being killed or imprisoned on account of their religion.
